CASEY Council has hit back at claims that it has forgotten about the Cranbourne Bypass, saying it has not stopped the drive for the construction of the road.
Despite a recent article in the Cranboure Leader stating that the Cranbourne Bypass “is almost forgotten”, the council said it would not give up on the fight to push the State Government to construct the Cranbourne.
The council also said it would continue its push to get the Narre Warren-Cranbourne Road from Linsell Boulevard to Sladen Street fully duplicated.
The council has been advocating for the bypass for more than a decade and City of Casey Mayor Shar Balmes said the staged delivery of the Cranbourne Bypass was a key priority of the City of Casey’s advocacy program.
Cr Balmes said until there was a commitment from the State Government to undertake the road improvement, residents of Casey and, in particular, the Cranbourne business community, would be inconvenienced by the high amount of traffic on High Street.
In November, Cr Balmes said diverting traffic, especially trucks, off High Street would improve the amenity of the main street.
“The Cranbourne Bypass is essential for Cranbourne to develop into a major centre and support more cafes and lifestyle shopping which, in turn, would have benefits for the local economy,” Cr Balmes said.
Residents can show their support for the Cranbourne Bypass by providing feedback on Casey Conversations at www.caseyconversations.com.au
“The Casey Conversations website is council’s dedicated consultation portal giving the Casey community the space and opportunity to provide feedback on a range of council advocacy initiatives,” Cr Balmes said.
“I encourage all members of the community to show their support for the Cranbourne Bypass by visiting Casey Conversations and providing feedback to assist council in advocating to the State Government for this much-needed road improvement.”
