A NEW police taskforce is cracking down on robberies in the south east.
The Dandenong Embona Taskforce was welcomed at the Dandenong police station on Monday 9 May, and plans to tackle robbery and armed robbery offences in Division 3, which includes Dandenong, Casey and Cardinia.
Detective Sergeant Trevor Smith said the new Embona Taskforce has detective and uniform officers dedicated to targeting these crimes.
“We’re just dedicated to these offences, pulling all our resources together for the offences and will hopefully improve the crime rates,” Det Sgt Smith said.
“Our charter is to investigate all robbery offences, so we’ve got a tech sergeant and six crew members.”
Robbery offences in the Dandenong, Casey and Cardinia areas used to be investigated by Frankston Embona, but Det Sgt Smith said the taskforce was investigating a lot of offences in the area, ‘hence the change over’.
