STUDENTS at Hillsmeade Primary School will have a bunch of new books, thanks to a welcome boost from the Rotary Club of Narre Warren.
The school received a donation of $750, which will go towards additional books for the Premier Reading Challenge and resources for a progressive reading program.
Rotary President Roger Hall said the funds came from an annual Jack Nobelius Award, which was named after the late and well-respected member of the community and was used for the purchase of new books to different schools annually.
“Literacy is so critical,” Mr Hall said.
“The books available these days are incredible and it’s so important for children to read these books or for parents and grandparents to read. Reading is important for the rest of their lives.”
Hillsmeade Primary School Principal Anne Nicholls said she was grateful for the donation and Rotary’s continued support of the students at the school.
“We want to thank the Rotary Club of Narre Warren for their generous donation and their regular support of activities at our school,” she said.
“The students will, without a doubt, enjoy the new books. We believe reading is one of those life-long skills and having new material at the school gives us an opportunity to use and develop new and broader skills.”
