Boy injured in scooter fall

A YOUNG boy was in serious condition following a toy scooter accident at Narre Warren North this week.
About 5pm on Monday night, a four-year-old boy fell off of his scooter and hit his head on concrete, intensive care paramedic Chris Blyth said.
“Unfortunately he wasn’t wearing a helmet,” Mr Blyth said.
“Witnesses said that he cried straight away so he wasn’t knocked out, but he was groggy.”
Mr Blyth said the boy’s mother told paramedics she had gone outside and found him sitting on the road and bleeding from his right ear.
She also said that he was slurring his words for a couple of minutes.
“The blood coming from his ear could indicate he may have suffered a fracture to the skull,” Mr Blyth said.
“Given the potential for a serious head injury we decided to take the boy to The Royal Children’s Hospital.
“People with head injuries can deteriorate quite quickly, requiring fast, lifesaving treatment so we decided to put a needle into his arm in case we had to give him intravenous drugs on the way to hospital.”
The boy was then taken to the Royal Children’s Hospital in a serious but stable condition.
