Crowd treated to high stakes hero

By Justin Robertson
AUSTRALIA’S highest paid greyhound will be making a special trackside appearance at Cranbourne’s Tricodes Day, held at the Cranbourne Racing Club on Sunday 27 March.
Cranbourne Greyhound Racing Club chief executive Tony Wright said the Pearcedale-trained dog High Earner will be there for a promo slot – not to race.
“We are very excited to have him at the Tricodes and it’s a great opportunity for the three racing codes to get together,” he said. “High Earner has become the biggest earner – in the country – and thought it was a good chance to show him off.”
Wright said, High Earner will be paraded in front of its fans and the general public, while the race caller announces his deeds.
“He is the greatest stake winner ever in Australian greyhound racing,” he said. “We’ll get him walking in front of the people, get a glimpse of him.
In the last month, High Earner – trained by Kel Greenough – has picked up $200,000 in prize-money taking his earnings to a record $553,795, with scope for more winnings.
From 64 starts, High Earner has been past the post first on 32 occasions.
Until three months ago, High Earner was being trained by owner Dave Robartson in Queensland, but has since called on the experience of Greenough in Victoria who hasn’t let the Queenslander down yet.
With 24 races being run every 15 minutes at Cranbourne on 27 March, Wright said punters who attend will be in for a cracking night of turf, harness and greyhound racing.
“With all three codes coming together, it should make for a terrific crowd,” he said. “Everyone should get there; it will be a great family day.”
