Hole lot of help

THE Rotary Club of Berwick swung into action last week to raise money for a good cause.
The Charity Golf Day was held at Cardinia-Beaconhills Golf Links on Friday and raised funds for the St John of God hospital in Berwick.
President Sjaak Kusters said the event was a great success and estimated the club raised almost $8000.
“We had 15 teams participate and the evening function was attended by all participating golfers including many Rotarians and partners,” Mr Kusters said.
“All up, we’re very happy, so congratulations to Golf Day Chairman Chris Booth and his team for putting it all together.
“It was a pretty good day.”
Mr Kusters said this is the first charity golf event held by the Rotary Club in four years.
“If you don’t run events you can’t raise money to give away,” he said.
“In pursuit to give money to charities and worthy causes, I brought a couple of things back this year, including the business dinner which raised $22,500. The bulk of that will go towards ovarian cancer research.”
Guest speaker was Cardinia-Beaconhills Golf Links president Alex McKay, who had an extensive career in marketing and founded CPM Marketing in 1995.
Mr Kusters thanked the Golf Day committee of Chris Booth, Peter Mangan, Mick Morland, Trevor Fry, Bob Lay, Alf Giesen and the volunteers on the day.
Winners for the first hole longest drive was Brad Crowley, second hole nearest to the pin was Rob Carlson, sixth hole nearest to the pin was Brad Cowley, 11th hole nearest to the pin was Ian Hollingsworth, 13th hole nearest to the pin was Neil Andrews and 15th hole nearest to the pin was Peter Davis.
The overall winning team was Neil Andrews, Bayden Farmer, David Kitchen and Andy Walker.
Mr Kusters said the Rotary Club of Berwick will hold the event again next year, and will promote it nine months in advance.
