TAC fraud punished

A HALLAM man has been convicted of defrauding the Transport Accident Commission of thousands of dollars over five months.
Last week, Radomir Karaga, 52, pleaded guilty in the Dandenong Magistrates’ Court to charges of having defrauded the TAC of nearly $8000.
Karaga breached the Transport Accident Act 1986 by claiming loss of earnings benefits to which he wasn’t entitled.
He returned to work while receiving TAC benefits and did not inform the TAC that he had returned to work.
The court found Karaga guilty of fraudulently obtaining a benefit contrary to section 116 of the Transport Accident Act 1986.
He was fined $1200 and ordered pay costs of $250. The TAC won restitution of $7968.
The TAC said the organisation took fraud seriously and where there was evidence of misconduct, it would exercise its legislative powers to investigate and prosecute.
