LOVEBIRDS across the City of Casey were wooing their partners with special gifts on the most romantic day of the year.
More than 5000 flowers were sold between Select Flowers at Fountain Gate and Blooms on Parkhill, owned by sisters Nicole and Stacey Abela, and mother Debbie.
The store had 147 deliveries and 50 store pick-ups.
Nicole said they were “flat out” on Monday, with sales peaking at 4.30pm.
“Men finished work and came in to get flowers,” she said.
“Only about five per cent (of purchasers) were girls.”
Nicole said the most popular choice was the long stem roses with traditional flowers selling out, while others opted for a cuddly teddy bear instead.
The special day was also not only for the young, but also the young at heart.
“The youngest boy would have been about 14, and the oldest about 75,” Nicole said.
And for those people who forgot – it’s better late than never.
“We were still really busy on Tuesday,” Nicole said.
“I think the boys would have gotten in trouble if they didn’t show up with flowers on Valentine’s Day!”
