CHAMPION Pearcedale trainer Kel Greenough has taken High Earner to its second Group 1 feature Perth Cup win in as many years.
Paying $5.10, the son of Collision-Double Guess bolted out of the boxes and gave a faultless display of power sprinting and gave his rivals no chance winning the cup easily in 30.37, beating Gold Heritage($6.20) and Kitty Lad ($2.90). It was a carbon copy win of last year’s performance. High Earner lived up to its name claiming $140,000 for the cup win.
Christine and Dave Robertson – owners of the superstar – brought back the dog last year from a stud career.
High Earner’s impeccable record stands at 62 starts, 31 wins and 19 placings, and has earned $502,675 to date, making him only the third greyhound ever to win more than half a million dollars, sitting behind Rapid Journey and El Galo.
The Robertson’s did not travel to Perth for the final, leaving the dog’s preparation to Kel Greenough, who has been training the black speedster for the past six weeks.
Over the past month High Earner has been a finalist in the Cranbourne Cup, Warragul Cup and now becomes the first dog to win two Perth Cups.
“Dave said there is no reason to stop racing him now and all being well, we’ll look forward the Easter Egg after the carnival at the Meadows,” Greenough said.
“It’s harder to keep them going when they get to four years of age but we’ll take it as it comes and see what happens, at least he may generate a bit more interest when he goes to stud next time.”
“I was also surprised he could only attract 18 bitches when he has the same dameline as El Galo,” Greenough said.
High Earner will take the field in the Group 1 Temlee invitational on 19th February and then onto the Australian Cup.
