BUSINESS owners at Eve Central are wondering what they mean to the City of Casey.
The council is closing a section of Glasscocks Road on 31 January for approximately four weeks for major culvert works, limiting access to the Eve Estate and new businesses at Eve Central.
Inclement weather may increase the closure for a further four weeks.
“We have eight new shops and they’re going to close the road when we’ve only just opened,” Shine on Eve hairdressing owner Sarah Young said.
“I don’t think that’s very fair.”
City of Casey Manager Roads and Construction Robert Kriek said the council strongly supports the establishment and growth of local business within the community.
“We will be working closely with the construction contractor to ensure that this section of Glasscocks Road is reopened at the earliest possible date,” Mr Kriek said.
Lisa Zheng recently opened Divine Noodles and Sushi and is concerned suppliers will have trouble finding the shop.
“The main thing is our suppliers are familiar with that road and if they have to go through the alternative, they might get a bit confused or lost,” she said.
Mr Kriek said additional signage will be provided over the coming weeks to advise motorists to use alternative routes.
But Ms Young is also concerned that as Glasscocks Road does not go through to Narre Warren-Cranbourne Road, the only way to reach Eve during the road closure will be through other estates.
“It leaves us in the middle of nowhere,” she said
“What if the residents of those estates complain about more traffic through a residential area?” she said.
Motorists will be directed through Greaves Road via Berwick Springs Promenade and Thompsons Road via William Thwaites Boulevard during the works, Mr Kriek said.
