Slow down call

By Lia Bichel
WORRIED Narre Warren residents have urged Casey Council to implement safety measures on their streets to ensure speeding drivers slow down.
Ardblair Terrace resident Kerry, who asked not to use her last name, said she feared an accident would happen or someone would be injured from careless drivers speeding over the limit.
“It’s a long stretch of road and I hate when they fly along like there’s no tomorrow,” she said.
“I think it is a lack of respect for people in our street. It is possible that an accident could happen if nothing changes.”
Kerry, who has lived on the street for two years, said a neighbour recently moved out of the area, partially due to the dangerous traffic.
Kerry said she liked living in the area and had no plans on moving, but hoped drivers would be more cautious.
“It’s a nice treeline street and a nice area around the lake, but drivers just fly through it,” she said.
“I just want them to slow down.”
Springfield Ward councillor Sam Aziz said many residents have contacted him about the traffic issue.
At last week’s council meeting, he urged the council to investigate the issue.
“I’m really concerned people are speeding. I understand there have been a couple of accidents. Many of the residents on that street are elderly and some are petrified that one day a speeding vehicle may end up in their lounge room,” Cr Aziz said.
“I am asking (the council) for whatever it takes to calm the road. We have to be pro-active.”
City of Casey manager Transport Paul Hamilton said the council had requested officers to investigate the issues and look into possible management options and report back at a future meeting that is likely to be in December.
“The council will also be notifying Victoria Police of these concerns so that monitoring and enforcement can take place along the street,” he said.
