BERWICK Fields Primary School was presented with a trophy as the Waste Smart School of the Year at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on Tuesday.
Principal Stephen Wigney said that students and staff at the school were thrilled to receive the award acknowledging efforts made by the school to promote an environmentally friendly mindset.
“It is terrific that the students and staff have been acknowledged for their hard work during their environment education classes,” he said.
Mr Wigney said all students spent one hour a week doing the specialist subject that integrates environmental awareness throughout the curriculum.
“The class gives students the opportunity and, I guess, a vehicle to contribute to the community with a hands on approach to the environment,” he said.
Berwick Fields Primary School not only received a trophy but was also presented with a $1000 grant and a collection of environmental resources including books and a worm farm.
The awards were organised by Sustainability Victoria.
