CASEY CEO Mike Tyler has been made a Paul Harris Fellow by the Rotary Club of Berwick.
The Paul Harris Fellow recognises ideals of goodwill, peace and understanding.
Mr Tyler, who has been living in the City of Casey for more than 20 years, received the award during last Thursday’s Rotary meeting.
Mr Tyler told the News he was stunned to receive the award.
Mr Tyler was employed as a town planner with the City of Berwick on 7 December 1981.
He was then promoted through the ranks to become the deputy city planner and then in 1988 he rose to the position of development services manager and then development services director in 1990.
Mr Tyler was appointed as the first CEO of the City of Casey in 1995.
Some of his achievements over the years include the land transfer to acquire Pioneers Park and the Casey Fields land purchase and the development of Casey Fields.
Besides his family, surfing and St Kilda, Mr Tyler has a passion to make the City of Casey the best place to live.
“I really enjoy working with the community, and striving to improve the city,” he said. “While I get a lot of personal satisfaction from what I do, the recognition makes me realise how much my work impacts on other people.”
Rotary Club of Berwick president Lynne Westland said Mr Tyler deserved the recognition for the work he had done in Casey.
“He’s an outstanding CEO and an exemplary inspiration to the community,” she said.
Former Edrington Ward councillor Mick Morland was also made a Paul Harris Fellow on the night.
