On the bike trail to health

PEDAL power will be the way around town this Sunday as bike riders take to some of the best trails in Victoria.
Narre Warren South resident Ralph Nielebock is set to clock up the kilometres when he rides the scenic Lilydale to Warburton rail trail as part of the annual Bike Path Discovery Day.
The 43-year-old will cycle the 76km round trip and said it will be a thoroughly enjoyable journey.
“The last time I rode it was about 12 months ago. It has some fantastic scenery along the way,” Mr Nielebock said.
The free ride has been organised by Bicycle Victoria in partnership with Parks Victoria and takes in more than 10 parks and trails throughout Melbourne and regional Victoria.
Mr Nielebock said he would enjoy Sunday’s ride at a leisurely pace and take part in the collection of stamps as he passes through certain checkpoints.
“It will probably take me about four hours to complete it.
“You get a passport at the start and you have to get certain stamps and you can win prizes at the end,” he said.
Mr Nielebock said he tries to get out on his bike and ride around the Casey area about once a week – with fitness being a positive reward for his efforts.
Other popular trails on the day will be the Jells Park-Dandenong Creek Trail and the Waterfront City-Docklands route.
Bicycle Victoria’s CEO Harry Barber said the Bike Path Discovery Day is a great way for people of all ages and cycling abilities to get active and enjoy some of the best cycling in Victoria.
“Bike Path Discovery Day promises to be an exciting day out with lots to see on the way and plenty to do so we’re keen for cyclists of all abilities to join us,” Mr Barber said.
Participants can register on the Bicycle Victoria website, www.bv.com.au to receive a passport and the chance to win prizes.
