CRANBOURNE RSL has won section pennant flags in both RVBA and VLBA.
The RVBA division six, section six team travelled to Boronia on Saturday and was presented with its pennant flag by RVBA officials for winning its section. A busload of supporters accompanied the team for the play-off against Ringwood for the first round of the section winners for the divisional flag.
A severe storm halted play for more than an hour and it was feared the game would be abandoned, but fortunately a break came and allowed it to proceed for a late result.
The same storm caused many other games around Melbourne to be abandoned and these had to be completed the following day.
Cranbourne RSL lost to Ringwood (87-96). A hard-fought game by both sides right up to the last few ends saw Ringwood get home by nine shots and will now play off in the next round for the divisional flag.
Results: Garry Lacey’s team (23-12) led all day and coasted home for a good 11-shot win against M. Gordon.
Mal Watkinson’s team (26-26) were six down at tea and had to chase M. Heald all the way to the second last end to get two up, but Ringwood got a two on the last end to draw their game. Doug Ambrose’s team (19-21) fought well and was two down at tea and got to two up at the 17th, but was overtaken again by R. Snell and finished just two shots down.
Bob Preston’s team (19-37) started slowly giving Ringwood’s R. Heath nine start before scoring, but caught up to be only three behind at tea. On the home run Ringwood picked up 20 shots to RSL six to clinch the game and seal the fate of RSL.

Cranbourne RSL ladies won their section pennant flag after finishing on top of the ladder and played in the first round of the divisional play-off to soundly defeat Brighton Beach (121-68) at Coatesville on Tuesday.
The RSL team had a two-hour bus journey to West Coburg on Thursday to play off in the semi-final against Sunshine RSL that was too strong on the day and finished 23 shots up.
Results: E. May (13-34) H. Rogers (15-28) D. Ambrose (29-17) S. Bright (21-22).
