RESIDENTS equipped with buckets, tongs and gloves are getting ready to clean up Narre Warren South for Clean Up Australia Day.
Co-ordinator of the Narre Warren South Friends of River Gum Creek Reserve Phil Hughes is calling for the community to jump on board.
The annual clean up day, which attracted more than 25 people last year, will kick off at 11am on Sunday 1 March at the pedestrian bridge along Filmer Crescent.
Mr Hughes said this year was the eighth time they had run the clean up.
“It’s one day of the year where everyone can make a difference,” he said.
“We can make the world a better place by removing the built-up litter in the creeks, streams and rivers.”
Participants are urged to bring appropriate clothing, footwear and gloves.
Mr Hughes has dropped off more than 300 flyers at local homes in an effort to attract more people.
He said one of the main concerns was the large amount of glass in the area.
“We find all types of rubbish dumped around Narre Warren South, including a lawn mower that was found in a creek,” he said.
The clean up is scheduled to finish at 2pm.
For more information call Phil Hughes on 9704 7704.
