Rainbow trout top up

Lakeside Pakenham will receive rainbow trout for people to catch.

Seventeen lakes across Melbourne will share in 1000 ‘stonker’ rainbow trout, some weighing up to 5kg each.

Within Cardinia Shire, Pakenham Lake (Lakeside) will receive 70 trout from 29 August, Lilliput Lane Reserve Pakenham will receive 10 from 30 August, Garfield Lake will receive 10 from 29 August and Emerald Lake will receive 30 from 30 August.

In the City of Casey, Berwick Springs Estate and Casey Fields Lake Cranbourne will each receive 40 from 1 September.

Rainbow trout are great stocking option for beginners because they’re easy to catch and take a variety of baits and lures.

Stonker stockings are funded by fishing licence fees and the State Government’s $35 million Go Fishing Victoria plan to get more people fishing, more often.

Family Fishing Lakes boast great access with waterside platforms, walking tracks, picnic areas and other facilities, creating a wonderful environment for people to get some fresh air whilst wetting a line close to home.

Rainbow trout are perfect because they’re easy to catch and taste great on the plate.

A daily bag limit of five trout applies in Family Fishing Lakes, of which only two trout can exceed 35cm.

The Eildon Pondage and Goulburn River, between Eildon and Molesworth, will also be stocked with 2000 stonkers for trout season opening on Saturday 3 September 2022.
