NOTORIOUSLY dangerous Cardinia Shire roads and intersections will be remodelled as part of a $1.5 million road safety grant.
Six new road projects will be funded under the Federal Government’s National Black Spot Program 2015/16 – including the intersection at Dalmore and Manks roads in Dalmore.
The fund has allocated $361,000 to realigning and reconstructing the intersection from a crossroads intersection to two T-type intersections.
Police have long campaigned for improvements to the accident-prone road, described as the shire’s worst intersection following several serious recent crashes.
Police welcomed the news after months of consultation with council.
Mayor Cr Jodie Owen said selected roads will be subject to re-alignment and reconstruction works to improve motorists’ safety.
“All these intersections or roads have met the Black Spot criteria for works to improve safety and create better conditions for all road users,” she said.
“The council welcomes the funding, which will allow the improvements to be addressed. We look forward to these working being completed as soon as possible.”
All six projects will be completed by July 2016.

The other road projects include:
* Heads Road/Caldermeade Road, Catani – $496,000 – re-align and reconstruct intersection from a crossroads intersection to two T-type intersections.
* Army Road (Princes Highway to Windermere Boulevard), Pakenham – $354,000 – install street lighting.
* McDonalds Track (Ranges Road/railway crossing curves), Lang Lang – $119,000 – seal shoulders and install additional warning signs.
* Rainy Hill Road, Cockatoo – $118,000 – alter roadside drains and batters to improve the roadside and install crash barriers at one location.
* McGregor Road/Henry Road/Webster Way, Pakenham – $38,000 – install fully controlled right turn for southbound traffic (turning into Henry Road) and fully controlled right turn (off peak only) for northbound traffic (turning into Webster Way).
