Open cars are easy targets

UNLOCKED cars continue to be an easy target for thieves in the Pakenham area.
Between Monday 14 September and Saturday 19 September, police received seven reports of thefts from motor vehicles including one attempted theft in the Cardinia shire area.
The worst affected were the Pakenham Road and Army Road areas.
Police also revealed that there were two reported registration plate thefts during the week.
Last week, police received eight reports of theft from cars, including one attempted theft.
In all incidents recorded over the fortnight, cars were left unlocked and showed no signs of forced entry.
The thieves stole small portable items including wallets, credit cards, cash, clothing, jewellery and CDs.
Police caution drivers to lock their cars at all times – including when they are in a residential street or driveway – to avoid opportunistic thieves in the area.
