CRANBOURNE kids are indulging in Dutch culture to foster community ties.
The not-for-profit day care centre Clarendon Street Community Co-op is holding a week of activities, celebrating a different culture each month.
The program celebrates the centre’s motto, Bringing the Community Together, and teaches children about different cultures within their community.
This week’s Dutch celebrations followed an Indian week and a Mauritius week.
Children made windmills on Monday, sang Dutch songs and made paper hats on Tuesday, and on Wednesday painted the town orange for Amsterdam’s biggest national event, King’s Day.
There was orange play dough, flags, balloons, food, orange juice and clothing and Dutch visitor Ineke spoke about her life in Holland as a little girl.
The children were set to make tulips on Thursday and indulge in poffertjes – tiny Dutch pancakes – on Friday.
